In the spirit of ‘say no to stuff’ I decided to make our own Playdough. I thought it would be a fun activity, forgetting temporarily how much mess any form of baking is with small people. I decided to make ours scented just to add to the sensory experience, and used a Doterra oil (we went with lemon as yellow food dye was the only one in the cupboard). I might try a natural food colorant next time (the only thing I had in the house which might have served as a natural dye was red wine…) as a really bold colour would be more fun. Store in an airtight container and it’ll keep indefinitely.
Make Your Own Playdough Recipe:
- two cups of flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1-2 cups of hot water (add slowly to reach the correct consistency)
- 10g cream of tartar (2 tbl sp)
- couple of drops of food dye
- couple of drops of Doterra scent or similar
- 2 tbl sp oil
- edible glitter (optional)
Make Your Own Playdough Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients
Mix the colouring and scent with the hot water and then add in gradually until you reading the right consistency (you can always add more flour if it gets too runny)
Roll out the dough on a flat surface, and add the glitter (edible or not depending on your Child’s age really)
These shapes are a Nigella set I bought on sale years ago, but if you don’t have any cutters handy rolling sausages, or driving little cars through is just as much fun!
